Storybuilding for Derivative Souls (Part the First)
Okay, so this is such another AU that I really didn't need, but I was hoping to get something done before they close out the flashfic posting window... Whether the Muses shall favor me tonight more or less depends on how long I can stay awake. *dozes*
Okay, so breaking it down, this is a clone story from the POV of the clone, which is not unique, I'm sure, but it's something I haven't written on before. (And yes, we are ignoring the fact that there is a clone in Hushed and White With Snow; he knows he's a clone, so shush. ^_~) So, anywho, dealing with issues of identity, self, and in some odd way the issue of children outliving their parents.
Told, of course, from the notJohn point of view, because what fun is a clone story told by the real people? Heh. ^_~
So, possible stopping points along the storyline are:
1. What has happened up till now ('capture', escape, life on the run)
2. Initial confrontation/WTFery when the two groups meet
3. Attempting to settle in with current identity
4. Recreation of self into new identity
5. Acclimation of new identity into normal SGA life (normal! Heh! ^_^)
Now, of course, step one can easily be built into the rest of the sections as self-references by notJohn and whatnot. Much like HaWWS I'm tempted to leave those bits out because they aren't really relevant to the story at hand.
So, if we are starting at point two (which the fic currently does) then I probably need to build more into information into the scene. The problem of course comes when I have to get the readers to differentiate between the 'real' and 'nots'. If the assumption of the new identities doesn't come until step four, then I have three steps worth of action/dialog/whatnot in which John is still John and Rodney is still Rodney.
Plus I have lots of room to roam between the steps... which is why this sort of drifted into an AU instead of one really really long fic. As proven by HaWWS, I'm really bad at finishing things, thus a bunch of shortfics are less annoying.
See, I learned something from The Secret Lives of Superheroes, really I did! ^_~ *grin*
