LENGTH/RAITING: 157 words, PG
SPOILERS: The Return, Part One
SUMMARY: She's just another airman, waiting to come home. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic The Return challenge.

It wasn't that she didn't miss Atlantis, she did, but she missed it the way she missed Grand Forks, and Pope, and Andrews. A wistful ache for things gone by, nothing more. The spiraling towers and alien seas were no more home than the asphalt and concrete airbases of her past assignments.

It wasn't Atlantis keeping her from taking the post at Misawa, or McGuire, or accepting the promotion that would have put her behind a desk instead of a mechanic's toolkit. It wasn't the city that kept her circling the SGC with 'just in case' and 'what if', waiting for the day they needed her again.

Because the city was just a symbol; home was where your family was, and they'd scattered her family to the four winds. So she circled, because the gate was here, and John was here, and all he had to do was say the word and she'd have her home again.

SPOILERS: The Return, Part One (AU-ish)
SUMMARY: Two hundred people went through the gate, not all of them came home. Written for [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic The Return challenge.

The SGC tries to bring them home, untwine them from borrowed seas and skies. Pour them back into lives left on the near side of forever, forgetting those few who'd stepped across a galaxy with nothing left to lose.

They'd buried their past in Pegasus, wrapped in the light of unknown stars and laid to rest with songs sung in languages they hadn't time to learn. Starting over in a whirlwind of fire and fury, they embraced the chance to be reborn.

Now they walk the mountain corridors, reduced to faint mimicry of those who'd never left. Nothing reaches them; no comforting words, no awkward peace offerings from those realizing too late that some who'd stumbled back through that gate, came back as ghosts.

Atlantis will sing for them, when they're back under distant stars and the waters of home curl around the ashes. She'll sing for them, her lost children found again, all Sheppard has to do is bring them home.

They'll find a way, they always have. Because home is only eight steps away, and they have promises to keep.

SUMMARY: When Reality meets Science Fiction. (Okay, so this challenge is a tad addicting... ^_^;;) I wrote this for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Sickness challenge, but I think I've spammed them enough for this week. ^_~

Atlantis was like a giant Kindergarten; all it took was one member a gate team coming back sick and a week later the whole city was chugging chicken soup. Elizabeth stared at her own bowl of forcefully bland noodles and broth and tried to muster the energy to be annoyed with the SGC. Their medical lectures had focused on biological weaponry, cheerfully glossing over the pathological dangers of planet hopping and details on how to survive what amounted to a never-ending cold and flu season.

She sighed and finished off her soup; at least this time it wasn't chicken pox.

"...they got sick and everybody died. The End."

"Rodney!" John dragged him out of earshot before the kids started crying. Again.

"What? It's true," Rodney snorted. "Ashes, ashes--"

"Remember five minutes ago? When you promised me you'd stop terrifying innocent children?"

"Which obviously doesn't apply here, because A) they've already been terrified by Ford's abysmal singing and B) they've given half of Atlantis chicken pox. Chicken pox is not innocent."

"Rodney."

"Besides, I'm not the one teaching them plague songs."

"Rod--"

"Fine-fine." Rodney muttered, "but next time Ford is reading them 'Carson and the Magic Cow Pox'."

SUMMARY: (I blame my Silly!Muse for this one.) GT1 runs into a bit of a problem when it appeals to an unknown village for help. [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic folklore challenge

"White is the color of death," she said,
With a tsk in her voice and a tilt to her head.
"What did you think we do, break bread?"
As she locked them away in the dark.

White is for bones and white is for snow.
White is for spirits and Wraith.
White is the bale and the bane of us all,
And black is the color of faith.

Away in the dark they fumed and they railed,
On colors and legends in campfire tales,
Till the moon reemerged from her dark diamond veil,
And showed them the way from the earth.

Black is for luck and black is for night
Black is for shadows and faith.
Black is the blanket that covers us all,
And white is the color of Wraith.

And never again did the strangers come,
Waving their flags of truce,
And never again did the strangers come,
Believing unnatural truths.

White is for bones and white is for snow.
White is for spirits and Wraith.
White is the bale and the bane of us all,
And black is the color of faith.

TITLE: The Knight of the Sea
FANDOM: Stargate Atlantis
SERIES: The Hungry Stars
LENGTH/RAITINGS: 325 words, PG-13 (mild cursing)
WARNINGS/SPOILERS: None
NOTES: The Atlanteans didn't just bring old legends with them through the stargates, they started new ones... Written for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Folklore Challenge.
SUMMARY: They sing a song of the Knight of the Sea; of hidden patterns that bind us all together, of eyes of piercing blue that see the parts of a greater whole, and how to speak unspoken truths. - They Sing to Remember

It's simple math; drawn in the dirt with a stick in a desperate bid to communicate with aliens who were actually aliens, but it isn't working and Rodney is this close to giving into the urge to scream at them until they hand John over. They seem to be waiting for something, watching him, weighing him against some unknown scale and why the hell--

It's a different stick that draws the story beside his equations in the dirt.

A few twisting lines and here's John falling from the sky in the puddlejumper, only it looks like a star, not a ship. It's just lines and squiggles but Rodney still flinches a little when it draws the crash, because they thought they'd lost him for good this time. And there's Ronon, guns blazing as they come through the stargate, looking for John and finding Wraith instead. Only it's flaming swords instead of guns, and the Wraith have stars for eyes. More deft strokes and there's Teyla, standing between them and the Wraith, sword in one hand and knife in the other. And the knife must mean something, but he's a physicist not an anthropologist; which is why SG-1 has Jackson and they really should get a Jackson of their own, because this is just making his head hurt. A few more lines and now she's singing? Talking? And then there's him, or he thinks it's him because the last one doesn't have a sword or a knife it has a... a stick? And there are his numbers, copied over again in the red-brown soil, only this time it doesn't stop at simple math and he finds himself staring at the equations in a numb sort of shock until the stick finally stops and waits for him to reply.

Maybe they'll remember John for his wings, and Ronon for his guns, and Teyla for her song, but Rodney, they'll remember Rodney for his math.

And that's enough.

SUMMARY:They sing a song of the Knight of the Fires; of a giant who felled the stars, of a son of a fallen world, and fearless warrior for forgotten dead. - They Sing to Remember

It doesn't bother Ronon, being a legend, he's been one before and at least this time he isn't the shadow of death and loss and cold dark silences Wraith leave behind. This time they run to him instead of away, and he's forgotten how good that feels, protecting. He's done the same for John and McKay and Teyla, but they don't need him, not the same way. And when the elder makes him kneel so she can draw reds and yellows in deft fingerstrokes of paint across his face, he thinks he might have finally found a legend that fits.

TIMELINE/VERSE: Second Season AU (Hushed and White With Snow 'verse)
SUMMARY: Atlantis knows... [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Missing Persons Challenge

They're not coming back.

The stargate will not open. John and Ronon will not come walking/sauntering/running through the event horizon just like they always/never/always have before.

Atlantis knows this because Rodney has told her so, and he never/always/sometimes lies to her. He's shown her the jumper's recordings of the explosion; shown her Carson's best/worst/best case scenarios; shown her the math in shaky handwriting on a whiteboard smudged with tears and blood and soot that proved the Wraith attack on Atlantis had forced them to keep the gate closed too long for rescue/survival/life to be possible. It's there in black and white and red; proof of a negative.

So she knows. And they know.

And she watches them as the months roll by, still waiting/watching/hoping for the thing that will never happen. And she waits with them.

Because sometimes Rodney lies.
