Xander Harris
Is the only scoobie who remains in the area after the finale. He does not head off to Africa, choosing instead to remain in Sunnydale and help rebuild the town (as well as keep the local baby slayers from getting overwhelmed if anything returns). He runs his own small independent construction company (Bionic Construction), depending mostly on the government grants to help rebuild the town. Because of the massive amount of work available, Xander makes sure everyone who wants a job has one (if only as long as he has work).
While no one wants to really know what happened, Xander is regarded as something of a local hero and serves on the Reconstruction and City Planning Boards.
New Sunnydale (aka Sunnydale 2.0, aka Southern Sunny, aka StubbornDale)
The town of Sunnydale has simply moved back a bit from the edge of the pit, and is populated by the folks who spent their entire lives in the area and are not willing to give it up without a fight.
The Pit as a non-active hellmouth serves mainly as a tourist attraction, although there was some talk from the remaining residence of filling it back in with a capped landfill. They realized after the first few tourists came wandering in that it would bring in more revenue if they left it be. There is a small memorial to everyone who lost their lives in the collapse on the southern end of town by the old 'Welcome to Sunnydale sign'.
