"We come in peace." Jack was doing his best impression of a benevolent dictator.

"And heavily armed." The spokesperson for the village looked unimpressed

"Sometimes peace isn't mutual."

[livejournal.com profile] drabbles Day 14 Prompt: Verb/Action: Returning home

It had been a long day, in a series of long days, and Jack couldn't shake the feeling that any second now something was going to kill them.

The grill sputtered happily beside him,

He'd lured the team out to the cabin, as much from a need to keep them in sight, keep them safe, as much as a chance to unwind.

"I'm getting too old for this." Jack looked out across the lake, having given up all pretense of fishing about the same time Daniel rescued dinner from the grill. Complete coincidence, of course.

"Couldn't agree more." Daniel hands him a plate, and snags a beer from the now half-empty cooler before settling into the other chair.

"No, no, you're suppose to say something comforting." Jack tipped his beer admonishingly.

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Don't mmm at me young man, kids these days--"

Chaos ensues.

In retrospect-- no, actually, he still had no regrets.
